Picture-Perfect Modi debuts on Instagram

Date:

Nay Pyi Taw: If any person in the world can get more than 35,000 followers within 13 minutes on Instagram, that’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ‘picture-perfect’ Prime Minister on Wednesday made debut on yet another social media platform, Instagram. “Hello World! Great being on Instagram. My first photo…this one from the ASEAN Summit,” announced Modi instagramming a picture from Myanmar –where he is attending the ASEAN-India summit.

The 64-year-old is among India’s most social media savvy politicians and has close to eight million followers on Twitter. His online outreach was considered a significant part of the national election campaign that brought him and his party, BJP, to power.

Since he took charge in May, Modi has regularly posted updates and pictures on Twitter of his foreign visits – he is currently on his third major tour – and of visiting dignitaries. He has also encouraged his ministers and officials to become more tech savvy.

Instagram allows its users to share pictures and videos on social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
