New Delhi: The toll of Indian pilgrims in the tragic Mecca stampede has rose to 14 and 13 have been reported injured, as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took it to twitter to confirm the latest update.
“Our Consul General Jeddah reports loss of 14 Indian lives in stampede. We have 13 injured in hospital,” Swaraj tweeted.
“The exact number will be known after confirmation by Saudi authorities,” she said in another tweet.

Nine of the total deceased pilgrims are from Gujarat, 2 each from Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand and one is a resident of Maharashtra.

More than 700 pilgrims from around the world were killed and over 800 were injured on Thursday in a stampede outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, Saudi authorities said, in the worst disaster to strike the annual Haj pilgrimage for 25 years.
