Besides, disciplinary action was taken for staying at the Besides, disciplinary action was taken for staying at thehostel premises after the stipulated time, disturbing peace,creating ruckus and consumption of alcohol with outsiders oncampus. Action was taken against 21 students in connection withthe February 9 incident on campus. Of them, Anirban Bhattacharya was banned for a period offive years from July 25 and Sayeed Umar Khalid was suspendedfor the monsoon semester of the 2016-17 academic year and finedRs 20,000. Another student, Mujeeb Gattu, was suspended for themonsoon and winter semesters of the 2016-17 academic year inconnection with the incident that hogged the limelight in thenational media and outside, while hostel facilities werewithdrawn for the monsoon and winter semesters for AshutoshKumar, besides being fined Rs 20,000. The action was taken against the students in connectionwith an event on the campus on February 8 where anti-nationalslogans were allegedly raised. Similarly, hostel facilities were withdrawn for KomalMohit till July 21, 2016 and a fine of Rs 20,000 each wasslapped on Awasthi A Nayyar, Anjali, Anwesha Chakrabarty,Bhavna, Rubina Saifee, Shweta Raj, Aishwarya Adhikari, GargiAdhikari, Chintu Kumari, Rama Naga, Anant Prakash Narayan andReazul Haque. Besides, Kanhaiya Kumar and Saurabh Kumar Sharma werefined Rs 10,000 each in connection with the incident and twoformer students of the university — Banajyotsna Lahiri andDraupadi Ghosh — were banned from entering the campus for aperiod of five years.
