Panjab Singh takes charge as new NAAS president

Former Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Vice Chancellor Panjab Singh on Monday took charge as the President of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) for a period of three years.

Singh, presently the first Chancellor of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi (UP), has also served as Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE), Government of India and Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

Panjab Singh is an agronomist by training with more than four decades of experience in agriculture research, education planning and management across institutions and organisations

NAAS, founded in 1990, is headquartered at NASC complex in PUSA campus, New Delhi and has fifteen regional chapters across the country with more than 650 distinguished fellows in different areas of agriculture and allied from India and abroad, according to a press release by BHU.

It focuses on the broad field of agricultural sciences including crop husbandry, animal husbandry, fisheries, agroforestry and interface between agriculture and agro-industry.
