Shatrughan Sinha campaigns for wife Poonam, praises SP-BSP-RLD alliance

Newly-inducted Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha and also a rebel BJP leader campaigned for his wife Poonam Sinha in Lucknow on Thursday.

Poonam Sinha filed her nomination from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency earlier in the day and is a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate.

Poonam Sinha, who is contesting against BJP sitting MP and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, joined the SP on Tuesday.

Shatrughan Sinha, who was accompanied by his wife and SP leader Dimple Yadav during a road show, also praised the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in the state.

He also praised SP chief Akhilesh Yadav saying, “Grand alliance has the power of youth with it and the example is Akhilesh Yadav, who is a youth icon not only in Uttar Pradesh but also throughout the country.”

“I am here not as a Congress leader but as a husband and surely I have the right to be by my wife’s side at this time,” he said.

“The elections this time are being held to bring a change. It will be fought for a cause of development… the development of the city, state and country,” the Congress leader added.

Meanwhile, the Congress candidate from Lucknow, Acharya Pramod Krishna, also filed his nomination for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat on Thursday.

Lucknow will go to poll in the fifth phase on May 6. Results for all the Lok Sabha seats will be announced on May 23.
