Proud of my involvement in Babri Masjid demolition, says Pragya Thakur

Date:

Malegaon blast accused and BJP Lok Sabha candidate Sadhvi Pragya Thakur on Sunday courted controversy with her new remarks in the last 48 hours, saying she takes pride in the Babri Masjid demolition.

The BJP candidate from the Bhopal parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh said, “We do not regret but are proud of demolishing the Babri Masjid. We removed the waste from our Lord Ram’s temple.”

“We will now build a grand Lord Ram temple there,” she said in a TV interview.

Following her controversial remark, the Election Commission has issued a notice to the BJP candidate and have sought an explanation in a day over her remarks, wherein she has said, “I had demolished the structure (in Ayodhya). I will go there & help in the construction of Ram temple.”

Thakur has been mired in controversy since she made a remark last week about Hemant Karkare, the senior police officer who was killed in the terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008, saying that he died as she ‘cursed’ him for torturing her.

As a result, the Election Commission on Saturday served her a notice and has been given 24 hours to respond.

Bhopal will go to polls on May 12, and results for all the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be announced on May 23.
