Fact Check: This picture was not taken during ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 launch

Date:

A post has surfaced on the internet in which a priest can be seen performing puja in front of a missile. The text ‘India’ can be seen written on the missile.

One of the claims attached to the picture is that the photo was taken during ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2  launch.

The caption of the picture read: “पूजा पाठ, वैदिक कर्म, कर्मकाण्ड को ढोंग ढकोसला कहनेवाले के मुँह पर जोरदार तमाचा लगाते हुए हमारे चन्द्रयान -2 के वैज्ञानिकों के समूह ने प्रक्षेपण से पूर्व पूजा-पाठ किया ।

Fact check

When the fact-checking team at NewsMobile did a fact check, we found out that the claim is fake.
On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original picture by Getty Images in an article by the New York Times.

The picture was taken in 2013 and shows Agni-V, an intercontinental ballistic missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India.

Hence, it proves that the picture is old and it was not taken during the Chandrayaan 2 launch.
