Maharashtra polls: Shiv Sena’s Aaditya Thackeray to contest from Worli

Aaditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, announced on Monday that he will contest the upcoming Maharashtra elections.

The 29-year-old leader will be the first of his family to contest any poll. He will contest from the Worli assembly constituency, a party stronghold.

Addressing party workers at Lala Lajpat Rai college in Worli, Aaditya said, “This is the time not just for me to contest the polls but to remove unemployment and to make new Maharashtra.”

Shortly after the announcement, the Shiv Sena said that Aaditya Thackeray will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

In the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, BJP and Shiv Sena will be contesting the polls in an alliance.

Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled to be held on October 21. The counting will take place on October 24.
