Indo-US ties on an upward swing: Indian Amb to US Taranjit Sandhu

Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Thursday that the Indo-US relations have never been more transformational than in the current era and the ties are on an upward swing.

He made these comments at a reception organized by the US-India Business Council to welcome him.

Also stating that the ties between the two countries enjoy bipartisan support, he said:

“The relationship has enjoyed strong bipartisan support in the United States. This is an affirmation of our shared values, of our common commitment to democracy and pluralism,”

Describing the economic ties as a key proponent of the ties between the two nations, he said that India seeks to become a US $5 tn by 2024 and the US will play a critical role in this endeavour.

In this regard, he said:

“Bilateral trade is growing at 10 per cent on a year-to-year basis and has reached USD 160 billion in 2019. Two-way investment between India and US reached USD 60 billion in 2018,”

“More than 2,000 US companies have a presence in India. Over 200 Indian companies have invested USD 18 billion in the US creating more than 100,000 direct jobs,” he added.

US President Donald Trump will be visiting India from February 24-25, 2019 and this visit will be critical for both nations.
