Ajmer’s Dargah area emerges as new hotspot, sees 79 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

Rajasthan is the fourth worst-hit state from coronavirus in the country and has so far reported over 1,900 cases with 27 deaths.

In an alarming development, the densely populated Muslim Mochi Mohalla in Ajmer’s Dargah area has emerged as the latest COVID-19 hotspot after having reported 79 cases in the last 24 hours.

These 79 fresh cases, reported from Tuesday night to Wednesday, are from 11-15 houses of the area, according to a Times of India report. The city’s case tally stood at 103 till Wednesday.

The health department found that all 79 fresh cases were migrant workers living in congested accommodations in the area which has narrow lanes.

A total of 329 samples have been collected from the area, out of which results of around 200 have come and 79 have tested positive. The results of remaining samples are expected by Thursday.

With these fresh cases, the overall case tally in the city has risen to 100. Rajasthan’s COVID-19 case tally is nearing in on the 2,000-mark as death toll in the state has risen to 27.

Meanwhile, India’s tally of COVID-19 has climbed to over 21,000 cases with the death toll nearing 700-mark. The country remains in a strict lockdown till May 3 to break the chain of transmission of the deadly virus.
