Maharashtra extends COVID-19 lockdown till July 31

The Maharashtra government on Monday (June 29) extended the COVID-19 lockdown till midnight of July 31 due to the prevailing coronavirus condition in the state.

The restrictions and relaxations that were there before should be followed the same way till July 31.

So far, under the ‘Mission Begin Again’, markets, shops, vehicular traffic and suburban train for essential services staff have started. Private and government offices with restricted staff have also started operating.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday inaugurated ‘Project PLATINA’-World’s Largest convalescent plasma therapy trial cum treatment of severe COVID-19 patients.

  • It is further directed that the movement of persons for the purposes of non-essential activities like shopping and the outdoor exercises, shall be restricted within the neighbourhood area limits with all necessary prescribed mandatory precautions of wearing masks, social distancing and personal hygiene,” a statement read.
  • Only those attending offices and emergencies will be allowed unrestricted movement, the government said.
  • “It is also directed that unrestricted movement will be permitted only for attending place of work and bonafide humanitarian requirement including medical reason”.
  • All essential shops, e-commerce activity for essential and non-essential items, all industrial units which are presently operational and home delivery of food will be allowed.
  • All essential and non-essential shops and market, except malls and market complexes, will be allowed to open from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • “All Government offices (excluding Emergency, health and Medical, treasuries, disaster management, police, NIC, food and Civil Supply, FCI, NYK, Municipal Services) to function with 15% strength or 15 persons – whichever is higher,” it said.
  • All private offices in Mumbai Metropolitan Region can operate with 10% strength or 10 people.

The Mumbai Police on Monday erected multiple check-posts to enforce the ”2-km” travel rule as part of its battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in massive traffic jams across the financial capital.

Maharashtra has been the worst COVID-19 hit state in India where there have been 1,64,626 coronavirus confirmed infections and 7,429 deaths. The state still has 70,622 active COVID-19 cases.
