FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be false.

Firstly, we googled the news with some keywords which led us to an India TV article dated February 15, and titled: “65% trains back on track! No plans to resume normal services by April 1: Indian Railways.”

The media outlet quoted the Ministry of Railways, saying that there is no plan in place for to resume normal operations of passenger trains.

We also checked the official website of Indian railways but did not find any such announcement. In fact, we found a clarification regarding the same in a press release dated February 13, 2021, on the website of PIB.

“There have been a series of reports in the media about resumption of full passenger train services from a given April date. Clarification is constantly being given to the media about it for last few days. It is being reiterated again that no such date has been fixed for resumption of all passenger trains operations,” the statement read.

The Press Information Bureau also put out a tweet refuting the viral claim about the resumption of normal operations of passenger trains from April 1st.

The government had suspended all passenger trains in March 2020 following the national lockdown to combat Covid-19 pandemic. In June 2020, the Centre allowed resumption of train services in a graded manner. Since then, Railways has been increasing the number of trains.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the viral message about the resumption of normal operations of passenger trains is FALSE.
