Panaji: In the recent development on Monday, The Ministry of Home Affairs recommended a CBI probe into Haryana BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat’s death case.
On Sunday, a Khap Mahapanchayat was held in Hisar demanding a CBI inquiry into the death of Sonali Phogat. Following the demand for a CBI investigation, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the case would be handed over to CBI.
Days after Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant demanded for a CBI investigation, the government issued the order.
Sonali Phogat’s family had called for a CBI probe into her death after postmortem report revealed multiple bruises on her body. The family has claimed that her assistant Sudhir Sangwan had raped her earlier and Sonali Phogat had complained to her mother about it.
Phogat, died in Goa last month and her death is being treated as a case of murder. She died after consuming drugs allegedly administered by her assistant Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh a day after she reached Goa. Sudhir and Sukhwinder are now in police custody.
