Ranchi: A bus carrying around 50 passengers fell off the bridge over the Siwan river in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district earlier this afternoon on Saturday.
According to newswire agency ANI, seven people have died in the accident while the rescue operations are underway.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chothe said that “The accident took place when the Ranchi-bound bus coming from Giridih district broke the railing of a bridge and fell into a dry spot in Siwanne River in Tatijharia Police Station area.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet added that “Anguished by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover soon.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren offered condolence to the families of the victims. He further added that “Relief and rescue work is being carried out by the district administration. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
