1st Test : India Stands Strong As Rohit, Jadeja Dominate On Day 1

Date:

Nagpur: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma stands strong as India ends the day’s play at 77 runs for the loss of one wicket on the first day of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

India lost the toss and the Aussies elected to bat first. However, Indian bowlers made in-roads with two quick wickets by seamers Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami as they cleared the opening pair of Usman Khwaja and David Warner.

Ravindra Jadeja remained the talk of the day after a dream comeback from injury. Jadeja wreaked havoc on the Australian batter as he bagged five wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin scalped three.

Hosts continued to dominate the sessions throughout the day as they managed to bowl out Australia at 177 runs.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul managed to give a strong start to the Indian batting innings as Sharma remained not out at 56 runs while night’s watchman Ashwin played five deliveries without scoring runs.

Ashwin scripted history as he became the second fastest bowler to take 450 Test wickets in terms of Tests played, after Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan who achieved this landmark in 80 matches.

It took Ashwin just 89 matches to achieve the feat as compared to Muralitharan’s 80 games.
