FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we identified multiple social media posts from 2022, including a clip — posted on March 5, 2022, on the official Facebook handle of Joe Biden.
In the video, Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi can also be seen sitting beside him like in the viral video. This indicates that the viral post might have been edited.
We came across a live stream YouTube video titled: President Biden’s State of the Union Address, streamed on the official channel of the White House on March 2, 2022.
The video is over 1.5 hours long and shows Biden’s State of the Union Address to the Americans. At around the 57:09 mark, we see him make the statement “Look, capitalism without competition is not capitalism, it’s exploitation.” The frames, too, match the viral clip.
There is also an official transcript of the entire address on the website of the White House, published on March 1, 2022. Here too, Biden said, “I’m a capitalist, but capitalism without competition is not capitalism. Capitalism without competition is exploitation,” which is completely opposite to the viral claim.
Therefore, we can concur that the viral video’s claim is misleading.
