New Delhi: Opposition MPs continued their sit-in protest for the fourth consecutive day during the Monsoon Session of Parliament over the suspension of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh and the Manipur issue.
Throughout Monday night, opposition leaders maintained their protest on the Parliament premises, stressing the need for a comprehensive debate on the Manipur situation.
The suspension of Sanjay Singh for the remainder of the Monsoon Session came on Monday, with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar justifying the decision by citing the repeated violation of his directives by the AAP MP.
The turmoil began when the House commenced the Question Hour, and the Opposition demanded a statement from the Prime Minister regarding the Manipur violence and a thorough discussion on the matter. Sanjay Singh moved near the Chairman’s podium in support of the opposition’s demands, but Dhankhar instructed him to return to his seat. Despite the warning, the AAP member persisted with his protest, leading to the Chairman naming him. Soon after, Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House, proposed a motion to suspend Sanjay Singh, condemning his behavior as a breach of the House’s ethics and rules.
While the Rajya Sabha faced these challenges, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the Lok Sabha, urged the opposition party MPs to allow smooth functioning of the ongoing Monsoon Session and assured them of his readiness to discuss the Manipur issue. He emphasized the importance of the nation knowing the truth about this sensitive matter.
Adding to the ongoing discussions, Congress MP Manish Tewari submitted an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha, pushing for a discussion on the situation in Manipur.
The situation remains tense in Parliament as the Opposition’s protest continues, and both sides seem determined to address the issues at hand through active debate and discussions in the coming days.
