New Delhi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that should the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regain power in the upcoming general election, their leader Nawaz Sharif will assume the position of the country’s Prime Minister once again,as per a PTI report.
The three-time former prime minister, who has been living in self-imposed exile in London since 2019, is anticipated to make his long-awaited return to the nation in the coming weeks, Shehbaz Sharif said on the Geo News show on Sunday.
Pakistan’s PM further stated that upon arriving in Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif will be subject to the judicial system. Shehbaz continued by saying that Nawaz Sharif had been taken abroad for medical treatment in accordance with a medical report created under the previous prime minister Imran Khan’s orders.
In 2017, Nawaz Sharif faced disqualification from public office by the Supreme Court. The Panama Papers case verdict declared him permanently ineligible to hold any public office the following year. He then started serving a seven-year prison term for corruption in the Al-Azizia Mills case.
Due to health reasons, Nawaz Sharif later secured a four-week bail from the Lahore High Court, allowing him to travel to London for medical treatment.
Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), emphasised the party’s commitment to seeking seat adjustments with their allied parties for the upcoming general elections. He further stated that in constituencies where a consensus could not be reached, the PML-N would proceed to nominate its own candidates.
