Commute Gets Easy As DMRC Plans QR Code-Based Metro Tickets On IRCTC Platform

Delhi: Now people travelling in Delhi Metro will be able to buy QR-based tickets from IRCTC platform as well. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro to provide QR code-based metro tickets through its platform.

“Pursuant to Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, this is to inform that IRCTC has signed a MoU with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on August 14, 2023, for providing QR code-based DMRC tickets through IRCTC Platform,” IRCTC said in the press release.

It further mentioned that this initiative will benefit passengers of both IRCTC and DMRC by streamlining the travel process, cutting down time spent in queues at stations and will benefit customers on both platforms.

The announcement came after IRCTC announce the financial results for the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year. During this period, the company’s profits amounted to ₹232.22 crore, indicating a marginal decline of 5% compared to the same period in the previous year. Notably, the profit for the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year was ₹279 crore.

In terms of its various business segments, IRCTC witnessed a 4 per cent decrease in revenue from its internet ticketing business during the April-June quarter, reporting earnings of ₹290 crores from 302 crores during the same timeframe the previous year.

The revenue from the tourism business experienced a substantial upswing, with revenue surging by 58 per cent to 130 crores in the June quarter, up from ₹82 crores in the corresponding period of the previous year.
