Widespread distress has engulfed Uttarakhand due to heavy rainfall, with reports of over 50 casualties attributed to the resultant calamity. The relentless downpours have led to extensive landslides, leading to the loss of both land and property. Meanwhile, in the Kedarnath region, a temporary suspension of the pilgrimage occurred due to a landslide. Following a two-day hiatus, the yatra has been reinstated.
Against this backdrop, a horrifying video of an overflowing river, in which many houses and hotels can be seen flowing, is widely shared on social media claiming that these visuals are from Kedarnath.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “केदारनाथ में पानी की बहाड़ आई देखिए इस वीडियो में” (English translation: Watch the torrent of water in Kedarnath in this video)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Running the keyframes of the viral video, through a Reverse Image Search the NM team identified a YouTube channel carrying similar visuals, dated September 1, 2020, with a title: “Flood in Swat | Heavy Flood in Bahrain and Madian | Swat Valley | Sherin Zada | Flood | Swat River”. Between 26 seconds and 1 minute and 11 seconds into the video, we can observe that it matches exactly with the viral video.
A similar video was shared on YouTube by the same Pakistani journalist on September 1, 2020, capturing the scene from a different angle.
Another video with similar content had been posted on YouTube two years ago with a title: “Swat Flood Alert 2020.” Below is comparison between the viral video and YouTube clip.
Earlier, Sama News had reported torrential rain, resulting in five casualties and substantial house damage in Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Also, details about this disaster in Swat Valley are available on The News International‘s website.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video from Pakistan is falsely shared as recent floods in Kedarnath.
