FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Performing a Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords, our team identified a report by ETV Bharat, dated July 23, 2023, covering a similar incident as the viral video. According to the report, near Raisi railway station, close to Haridwar in Uttarakhand, there was a commotion among passengers due to news of a fire in the Sadbhavna Express travelling from Lucknow to Chandigarh.

Panic heightened when the train was halted on the Banganga River bridge. Passengers took risks to disembark and were seen carefully walking along the bridge’s sides in an attempt to exit. The incident occurred when someone pulled the train’s chain, causing the brakes to jam and smoke to emit from the wheels. Passengers, assuming a fire, quickly evacuated the train. It remained on the bridge for about an hour. Railway officials promptly arrived, fixed the brakes, and allowed the train to continue. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were reported.

Numerous other news outlets, such as NDTV and Amar Ujala, also covered this incident. According to statements from officials in some reports, it was confirmed that there were no casualties. No other report mentioned any loss of life.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that a video of panic created over a train fire is shared with misleading claims.
