New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday faced its second adjournment for the day as the opposition parties continued to demand a detailed discussion on the Manipur violence issue. The opposition parties also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the issue.
Earlier, the Upper House was adjourned until 12 p.m. Opposition parties continued their protest as the house reassembled and proceeded with question hour.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar told the protesting members to maintain order in the house.
“We will have to have zero tolerance for lack of decorum,” Dhankhar said.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge asked why there is no discussion on the Manipur issue when 50 members have given notice under Rule 267 today.
“So many representatives are giving notices under 267 in Parliament. We are talking about Manipur, but the Prime Minister is talking about East India Company,” Kharge said.
Taking a dig at PM Modi’s recent remarks on the I.N.D.I.A. alliance Kharge, in a statement to ANI, said, “We insist PM Modi to come to the Parliament and speak on the Manipur issue but he is talking about East India Company in his party meeting. Why is he scared about opposition parties naming themselves as I.N.D.I.A.”
The Rajya Sabha has been experiencing repeated adjournments since the commencement of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.
