Mumbai: Actor Dinesh Phadnis, known for his role in the popular TV series CID, passed away at the age of 57 in Mumbai on Monday night. Best known for his role as Fredericks in the popular show, Phadnis had been admitted to Tunga Hospital in suburban Mumbai a few days ago and succumbed to health complications. His CID co-star Aditya Srivastava confirmed the news and said, “Dinesh has left us around 12:08 am. We know that he had liver issues and it had an impact on the other organs. He was really unwell for two or three days. He couldn’t survive.”
As soon as the news came, netizens took to X to express shock over the actor’s demise. “Rest in peace Dinesh Phadnis aka Fredricks. Thank you for the great memories and for making us laugh, you will be missed”, a social media user wrote.

Apart from his role in the TV series CID, Dinesh Phadnis had brief appearances in films like Sarfarosh and Mela, both featuring Aamir Khan in lead roles. He also had a role in the film Officer in 2001. His acting portfolio included cameo appearances in TV shows such as CID: Special Bureau, Adaalat, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, and CIF, among others. Dinesh Phadnis was also part of the Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30. Beyond acting, he contributed as a writer for a Marathi film.
CID, which was first aired in 1997, revolved around solving murder mysteries with Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman, Aditya Srivastava as Senior Inspector Abhijeet, and Dayanand Shetty as Senior Inspector Daya in key roles. The show achieved massive success, spanning over two decades and boasting a total of more than 1,500 episodes.
